Clinical Results of Sutureless Cataract Surgery According to Incision Length

Abstract
For the purpose of evaluation in the postoperative changes by incision length in sutureless cataract surgery, we had studied the frequency of hyphema, changes of intraocular pressure, presence of leaking on incision site, improvement of visual
acuity,
and changes of corneal astigmatism. We had followed up 167 eyes, dividing into 3 groups for postoperative 3 months, group 1(61 eyes) was implanted ovoid polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) IOL through 5.2mm length incision and group 2(22 eyes) was
implanted
6mm PMMA IOL through 6.2mm length incision and group 3(84 eyes) was implanted 6.5 to 7mm PMMA IOL through 7.2mm length incision.
The longer incision length, the postoperative hyphema, hypotony, leaking on incision site were more but the ocular hypertension was same, and there was positive correlation between Group 1 and Group 3. Postoperative visual rehabilitation was
faster
at
postoperative 1 day and better at postoperative 3 month in Group 1. Postoperative corneal astigmatism was below 0.7 D totally by means of algebraic method. By means of vector method, as the duration was passed, the shorter the incision, length,
the
less
the postoperative astigmatism.
Therefore we knew that the shorter the incision length, the less postoperative complications, the more early improvement of visual acuity, and the less postoperative corneal astigmatic changes.
